Condition monitoring for propulsion coils of superconducting Maglev systems using an on-board radio interferometer system
Superconducting magnetic levitation (Maglev) systems require a large number of ground coils: propulsion coils and levitation-guidance coils, therefore how to monitor the condition of ground coils is a big issue for the real operation. In our previous papers, it is shown that an on-board radio interferometer system is effective for detecting and locating a partial discharge (PD) source occurring in an abnormal propulsion coil. We mounted the two radio interferometer systems on a test vehicle consisting of a bogie and a car for moving-detection and location of a PD source occurring in an abnormal propulsion coil arranged on the U-shaped guideway of Miyazaki Maglev test track. It is shown that the abnormal propulsion coil could be found by using the on-board radio interferometer system while the test vehicle was driven at the speed of 50km/h.

Improving Detection Sensitivity of an On-Board Radio Interferometer System for Locating Partial Discharge Sources in Propulsion Coils of Superconducting Maglev Systems
The detection sensitivity of an on-board radio interferometer system for indicating abnormal propulsion coils in superconducting magnetic levitation (Maglev) systems was improved by shortening the antenna spacing from 1.0m to 0.5m and introducing the cross-correlation (CC) of dynamic spectra. Electromagnetic (EM) waves due to the occurrence of partial discharge (PD) pulses in an abnormal propulsion coil were received with the antenna-array consisting of four half-dipole antennas; dynamic spectra of the received signals were digitally calculated by using the in-place fast Haar wavelet transform (IP-FHWT) embedded in the radio interferometer system. The abnormal propulsion coil was indicated by combining the results of the PD location using the 625MHz-component and the relationship among the peak-to-peak amplitudes of the waveforms of the EM waves. From the viewpoint of receiving the EM waves with two or more antennas of the antenna-array, the detection sensitivity could be improved more than two times. The effects of frequency characteristics of the propagation paths could be removed by extracting only the 625MHz-componet from the CCs, i.e. this could reduce both errors in the time-delay estimation and in the PD location.

Locating Partial Discharge Sources in Propulsion Coils of Superconducting Maglev Systems Using an On-Board Radio Interferometer System
Propulsion coils are used for propelling vehicles in superconducting magnetic levitation (Maglev) systems. This paper presents experimental results for finding a propulsion coil with defects by using an on-board radio interferometer system. In the experiments, the antennas of the radio interferometer system were mounted on a mock-up of the body of Maglev vehicle; considering the real operation of Maglev systems, levitation-guidance coils were arranged in front of the propulsion coils attached to the sidewall of a short-sized concrete guideway. A generalized cross correlation (GCC) was embedded in the radio interferometer system in order to estimate the time delay between signals received with the antennas with higher accuracy. The experimental results demonstrated that the propulsion coil with defects placed behind the levitation-guidance coils can be found by using the on-board radio interferometer system.

Location of Partial Discharge Occurring in Propulsion Coil of Superconducting Maglev System using Radio Interferometer System with EM Shield
Superconducting magnetic levitation (Maglev) system needs a large number of ground coils: propulsion coils and levitation-guidance coils that are attached to both the concrete sidewalls of the guideway, which corresponds to the rails of a conventional railway. The propulsion coils are energized in order to propel the Maglev vehicle by a three-phase alternating current from a substation, which generates a shifting magnetic field on the guideway. The propulsion coils are made of aluminum conductors insulated with epoxy resin. Condition monitoring and diagnosis for insulating materials of ground coils are required in order to operate the Maglev system safely. We have previously shown that the radio interferometer system can locate a partial discharge (PD) occurring in the propulsion coil under noise environment through outdoor experiments. In this study we added EM shields to the radio interferometer system in order to suppress radio noise from the rear and both sides of antenna-array and reduce the reflection of EM waves. It was easier to obtain the EM waves emitted from PD because the radio noise could be suppressed. We also investigated the effects of a mock-up body (part of the sidewall) of Maglev vehicle on locating PD occurring in the propulsion coil.

Location of partial discharge occurring in ground coil of superconducting Maglev system under noise environment using radio interferometer system
Superconducting magnetically levitated vehicle (Maglev) system needs a large number of ground coils installed on the guideway, which corresponds to the rails of a conventional railway. Main insulating material of ground coil is epoxy resin it is required to develop the insulation diagnostic technique for the ground coils installed along the entire length of the guideway in order to increase the reliability of the Maglev system. We apply the radio interferometer system, which has been originally designed, to the location of a partial discharge (PD) occurring in the ground coil attached to the sidewall of a mock-up of concrete guideway constructed outside. In consideration of radio noise, a finite-duration impulse response (FIR) filter and the short-term-average to long-term average (STA/LTA) ratio method are installed in the radio interferometer system. The FIR filter removes radio noise from received signals, and the STA/LTA ratio method determines arrival time of electromagnetic (EM) waves emitted from PD. © 2013 IEEE.

Internal defect position evaluation of ground coil by detecting electromagnetic waves from partial discharge
Because a huge number of ground coils are used outdoors for an extended period of time in the superconducting magnetically levitated transportation (Maglev) system, high reliability of ground coils and the cost reduction are required. The propulsion coil especially needs the high insulation stability as high-voltage equipment. Because the ground coil, which is made with the resin-molded winding, does not have a core in the structure, the ground coil must be exposed to the electromagnetic force directly. Therefore, there is a possibility that minute defects in the molded resin of the ground coil may expand, become apparent, and lead to the deterioration of insulation stability. In this paper, we examined the insulation diagnosis to assess the existence/nonexistence of the inside defect and locate the defect by setting a simulated void-defect inside the molded resin of the ground coil and detecting the electromagnetic waves effectively that are emitted from a partial discharge at the defect point. © 2013 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Locating Partial Discharge Generated in PLG Type-Ground Coil for Superconducting Maglev Using Radio Interferometer System

In order to reduce the construction cost by reducing the number of ground coils, a combined propulsion, levitation and guidance (PLG) type-ground coil (PLG coil) has been developed. Because the main insulating material of PLG coil is epoxy resin, it is required to develop the insulation diagnosis technique for the ground coils installed along the entire length of the guideway. We apply the radio interferometer system, which has been originally designed, to locate partial discharge (PD) generated in the PLG-coil. The radio interferometer system can locate PD by calculating the time difference of arrival of EM waves emitted from PD. This paper describes the results of PD location by using the radio interferometer system set at three positions in turn and the effect of position.

Simulation Study on Multi-Pulse Phenomena of Atmospheric Pressure Argon Dielectric Barrier Discharge
In this paper, a one-dimensional discharge model is employed to study multi-pulse phenomena in Ar dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) under atmospheric pressure. The finite-element method is employed to solve the model. The influences of applied voltage amplitude and frequency as well as gas gap distance on the variation of multi discharge pulses are investigated and discussed. The simulation results show that, both the intensity of discharge current and the number of discharge pulses increase with the amplitude of applied voltage, and narrower gas gap is more favorable for the formation of multi pulses. It is revealed that Ar DBDs behave in glow discharge mode when the applied voltage and gas gap distance vary from 2 kV to 6 kV and from 1 mm to 3 mm, respectively. With the frequency decreasing from 250 Hz to 125 Hz, the intensity of discharge current weakens and the number of discharge pulses increases, and the discharges behave in the typical Townsend discharge mode.

Effect of Spectrum Analyzer's Impulse Bandwidth on the Measurement of EM Waves Emitted from Partial Discharges in Multipath-Rich Environment
Superheterodyne spectrum analyzer (SA) has been widely used for receiving EM waves emitted from partial discharge (PD) because of its high sensitivity. Generally, resolution bandwidth is shown as a measurement parameter because the pulse response depends on the receiver's bandwidth. In this paper, we measure the impulse bandwidth of SA and describe the effect of the impulse bandwidth of SA on the measurement of EM waves emitted from PD in multipath-rich environment. The results showed that the field strength of the EM waves emitted from PD is proportional to the impulse bandwidth higher than about 200 kHz and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) increases with the impulse bandwidth as in the measurement of pulsed RF signals. On the other hand, as it is assumable that the ground coil has the resin molded winding coil with coreless construction, the ground coil must be exposed to the severe environment where it receives electromagnetic force directly. Therefore, there is a possibility that minute defects that are latent in the mold construction of the ground coil may expand, become apparent and cause of deterioration of the insulation stability. In this paper, we examined the insulation diagnostic measures to assess the existence/nonexistence of the inside defect and locate the defect position by setting a simulated defect artificially inside the mold construction of the ground coil and detecting the electromagnetic waves effectively that are generated from the discharge at the defect point.

Simulation on Locating Partial Discharge in T-Shaped Branch of GIS by Applying the STA/LTA Ratio Method to EM Waves Leaked from Insulating Spacers
This paper describes partial discharge (PD) location through electromagnetic (EM) waves in ultra-high frequency (UHF: 300MHz-3GHz) band leaked from the insulating spacers in a T-shaped branch of gas insulated switchgear (GIS). The propagation of EM waves in GIS and the leakage through spacers were simulated by using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The time difference of arrival (TDOA) of leaked EM waves was employed to locate PD under white noise background. The short-term-average to long-term-average (STA/LTA) ratio method was applied to estimate TDOAs among the monitoring points arranged on the circumference of the insulating spacers in a connection of the next section of GIS. The simulation results showed that PD position could be located through the EM waves leaked from spacers of GIS wherever PD in a T-branch or straight section. The average location error of PD in the T-branch was larger than that of PD in the straight section. The PD positions and pairing of monitoring points had little influence on the location accuracy. Finally, the influence of flanges and bolts on PD location was investigated.

Measurement of Electromagnetic Waves Emitted from Partial Discharge Generated in PLG Type-Ground Coil for Superconducting Maglev
It is planned to start commercial service with Superconducting Magnetically Levitated Vehicle (Maglev) system between Tokyo and Nagoya (about 300km) in Japan in 2027. Combined propulsion, levitation and guidance (PLG) type-ground coil (PLG coil) has been developed in order to reduce the construction cost by reducing the number of ground coils. We measured the electromagnetic (EM) waves emitted from partial discharge (PD) generated in the PLG coil in order to develop the non-contact PD detection system for the PLG coils. This paper describes the measurement results of the EM waves emitted from PD generated in the PLG coil using UHF antennas and the location of PD by using the radio interferometer system.

Localization of a Partial Discharge Source Using Maximum Likelihood Estimation
Analyzing the electromagnetic waves generated by partial discharges is effective to assess insulation degeneration. In this paper, we describe a locating method for a partial discharge source based on maximum likelihood estimation. This method uses the root mean square and the direction of arrival of partial discharge signals which are calculated from measurement data obtained using sensors. This information is integrated using the maximum likelihood method. In this case, only the signals received in a good reception condition are used because the signals affected by multipath effects can decrease the estimation accuracy. This paper considers the case that apparatuses interrupt the direct paths from a partial discharge source to sensors. The capability of the proposed method was confirmed by simulations using the finite difference time domain method. The results include the comparison of performance for the number of sensors and show that this method has enough resolution to detect partial discharge sources. Visualization of Propagation Signals Accompanied by Contact Using Cross-Correlation Method Based on In-Place Fast Haar Wavelet Transform
In this paper we present the results of applying the cross-correlation (CC) method based on the in-place fast Haar wavelet transform (IpFHWT) to visualize the propagation signals associated with contact on a model turbine rotor. It is required to detect typical vibration and to localize the position of failure in turbine and generator accurately. Because modern power plants usually use one-high pressure and one or two lower pressure turbines and a generator, we use the turbine model with three rotors. The cross-correlation of acceleration signals is obtained in the time-frequency domain by using the CC-IpFHWT. From the cross-correlation the signals accompanied by the contact can be extracted.

Locating partial discharge source occurring on distribution line by using FDTD and TDOA methods
In this paper, the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method is used to simulate the propagation of electromagnetic (EM) waves emitted from partial discharge (PD) occurred on distribution line. The simulation model is composed of the distribution line, a building, the ground and four antennas mounted on a vehicle. Three pairs of time difference of arrival (TDOA) among antennas are used to locate PD position in three dimensions. The TDOAs are obtained by using standard cross-correlation (SCC) method. The superimposed positioning optimization on the time delay of arrival (SPOT) method is used to improve the location result. © 2009 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Development of recursive interpolated D/FFT for on-line and highly accurate frequency analysis
Frequency analysis of digital signals based oil discrete/fast Fourier transform (D/FFT) inevitably has some inherent drawbacks Such as short-and long-range leakage. As one of the methods to overcome the above drawbacks. interpolated discrete/fast Fourier transform (lpD/FFT) has been proposed. lpD/FFT has the ability to improve accuracy considerably. We proposed IpD/FFT, combined with recursive algorithm (RA), to achieve on-line calculation. By evaluating the errors of the proposed Method Clue to short-and lon-range leakage. we showed that the proposed method call provide more accurate performance compared with recursive DFT (R-DFT). Analysis of the electromagnetic (EM) waves emitted from partial discharge (PD) is useful from the viewpoint of non-contact diagnosis for power equipment. It's important to model the generation and propagation of the EM waves emitted from PD for understanding the physical mechanism. Maxwell's equations for the EM waves are replaced by a set of finite difference equations such as the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The FDTD suffers from phase error caused by its numerical dispersion. We numerically analyzes the EM waves emitted from PD in time-frequency using the constrained interpolation profile (CIP) method, which is higher accuracy than the FDTD, and the in-place fast Haar wavelet transform (IP-FHWT). In this paper we present the results of applying the cross-correlation (CC) method based on the in-place fast Haar wavelet transform (IpFHWT) to know the correlation between the received signals associated with vibration phenomena on a model turbine rotor. It is required to detect typical vibration of turbine and generator accurately. Modern power plants usually use one-high pressure and one or two lower pressure turbines. We make the model turbine with three rotors supported with journal bearings and simulated abnormal conditions. The vibration caused by the abnormal conditions is measured with accelerometers, displacement meters, and acoustic emission sensors. The cross-correlation of acceleration signals is obtained in the time-frequency domain by using the CC-IpFHWT.

Measurement of partial discharge (PD) has been used to assess the condition of insulation material used in electric power equipment. Analysis on the electromagnetic (EM) waves emitted from PD is useful from the viewpoint of noncontact diagnosis because PD emits wideband EM waves. The constrained interpolation profile method (CIP) is used to visualize the wideband EM waves emitted from PD for understanding the physical mechanism. The wideband EM waves are analyzed by using the in-place fast Haar wavelet transform(IP-FHWT), which can show the discrete time-frequency components. The PD is numerically obtained by the total amount of charge and the rise time. Numerical results show that the proposed method based on the CIP and the IN FHWT is useful for analyzing the relationship between the PD current and the EM waves.

Estimation of the number of partial discharge sources using multichannel blind deconvolution of electromagnetic waves
We propose a method to estimate the number of partial discharge sources in multipath environment using the multichannel blind deconvolution method called the super-exponential deflation method. Blind deconvolution is a method of recovering transmitted signals from only observed signals without any a priori knowledge of the source signals. The deflation approach can extract a source signal which is non-Gaussian from the observed signals one by one. The deflation approach is repeated until all non-Gaussian signals are extracted, in which case the input signals become close to Gaussian noise. The eigenvalues of the spatial correlation matrix of the input signals indicate whether the input signals are Gaussian noise or not. Thus, the proposed method estimates the number of PD sources by repeating the deflation approach and analyzing the eigenvalues. © 2008 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Location Technique for Multiple Partial Discharge Sources using Independent Component Analysis and Direction of Arrival Method of Electromagnetic Waves based on Bayesian Network
独立成分分析とベイジアンネットを適用した電磁波到来角推定法による複数部分放電源の位置標定
We propose the new locating method for multiple partial discharge sources using independent component analysis (ICA) and direction of arrival method of electromagnetic (EM) waves based on Bayesian Network. The proposed method consists of the following steps. First, the observed signals are converted from the time domain to the frequency domain through the short time Fourier transform (STFT). As the result of this process, ICA for convolved mixture turns into ICA for instantaneous mixture. In order to separate mixed signals, we use the fast ICA algorithm (FastICA) that is based on negentropy as a measure of nongaussianity. Next, we apply the direction of arrival method of EM waves using Bayesian Network to the separated source signals by ICA. Signal sources are estimated by calculating intersection point from the arrival angle. Simulation results showed that our method located multiple signal sources when the observed signals were the convolved mixture of original sources.

Rotor Vibration Diagnosis using Wavelet Analysis (Detection of Rubbing and Lack of Lubricant in Bearings)
ウェーブレット解析を利用した軸振動診断(ラビングと軸受給油不足の検出)
We developed a diagnosis method for unsteady rotor vibration using vibration repetition calculated from the results of wavelet analysis. In previous research, we compared measured vibration repetition with pre-measured abnormal vibration repetition. To improve the reliability of the diagnosis, we used differential vibration repetition, which is calculated by subtracting pre-measured normal vibration repetition from measured one. We measured abnormal vibration and applied the diagnosis method to the measured vibration, to determine the reliability of the method. An unsteady natural frequency vibration started, when rubbing on a rotor occurred. As lubricant in the bearings was reduced, a steady natural frequency vibration occurred, and it changed to an unsteady low frequency vibration. A steady super-harmonic vibration occurred when most of the lubricant in the bearings was absent. The reliability of the diagnosis was improved using deferential vibration repetition.

Visualization of contact vibration generated on turbine model using fast Haar wavelet transform
In this paper we present the results of fundamental study to introduce the in-place fast Haar wavelet transform to vibration diagnosis for a turbine and a generator. It is required to detect typical vibration of the turbine and the generator accurately. Modern power plants usually use one-high pressure and one or two lower pressure turbines. We made the turbine model with 3 rotors supported with journal bearings to simulate rotor-to-stator contact The contact vibration was measured with displacement meters, acoustic emission sensors and accelerometers. The acceleration signals accompanied by the contact were visualized in the time-frequency domain by the in-place fast Haar wavelet transform. The in-place fast Haar wavelet transform can clearly detect the components accompanied by the contact.

Diagnosis using Wavelet Analysis for Vibration when Lubricant in Bearings is Reduced
ウェーブレット解析による軸受給油不足時の振動診断
An abnormal vibration is measured when lubricant in bearings is reduced. It is found that the abnormal vibration changes from intermittent low frequency vibration to steady high frequency vibration as the lubricant decrease. Repetition factors are used to detect abnormal vibrations. The repetition factors are normalized with the largest vibration amplitude of each frequency component. So this diagnosis method can detect intermittent vibration and small vibration on beginning of failure. This diagnosis methodis applied to measured vibration and demonstratedits availability.

It was found that the dynamic spectra obtained by the wavelet transform of the acceleration signals were different for each vibration. The result shows that our proposed method can discriminate the vibration phenomena. And furthermore, the contact point can be localized by the dynamic spectrum.

The time delay between two antennas computed from digital data generally has error because of the effect of sampling time. Therefore the angle of arrival estimated from the time delay also has the estimation error. In order to deal with the estimation error, we investigate a probabilistic method of reasoning with uncertain information. In this method, system provides the probabilities of each angle based on Bayes' Theorem. From results of a simulation and an experiment, we have confirmed that our proposed method is able to estimate the angle of arrival of the electromagnetic waves. © 2005, The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. It is required to detect the vibration of turbine generators more accurately. The wavelet transform is used in many fields because it is able to visualize a phenomenon in the time-frequency domain and to detect the beginning time and the duration of it. We made a model rotor supported with two journal bearings to simulate typical vibrations as contact vibration, clearance vibration, and oil whip. The vibration phenomena were measured with displacement meters at the rotor and accelerometers at the rotor bearing, and then, visualized in the time-frequency domain by the wavelet transform. It is found that the dynamic spectra obtained by the wavelet transform of the contact vibration, the clearance vibration, and the oil whip, are different respectively. Therefore, this method is able to distinguish the typical vibration phenomena. The vibration phenomena can be detected and distinguished at the early stage. © 2004 IEEE.

Use of wavelet transform and fuzzy system theory to distinguish wear particles in lubricating oil for bearing diagnosis
Ferrographic analysis is required in order to detect wear particles in lubricating oil automatically, because the customary approach takes a great deal of time. We propose a new method to detect wear particles in lubricating oil in order to diagnose bearings, by means of local spatial frequency analysis using the wavelet transform. The Gabor function and cylindrical Gabor function are used as the mother functions of the wavelet transform in this paper. The Gabor function is effective in detecting particles which distribute along the lines of magnetic force on the ferrogram slide. The cylindrical Gabor function can detect circular particles. To discriminate the particles, we apply fuzzy system theory to the image transformed by two Gabor functions and show the effectiveness of this method. (C) 2000 Scripta Technica.

Insulation diagnosis method for generator winding by measuring microwaves associated with dielectric breakdown
Partial discharge (PD) within voids in a solid insulating system is a symptom and/or a direct cause of deterioration of a generator winding. It is reported that PD is a very short duration current and/or voltage pulse, about 1 to 5 ns. Generally PD emits an electromagnetic wave which is a broadband range signal (similar to gigahertz). Therefore, we developed a new system for detecting the electromagnetic wave, especially microwaves (gigahertz) associated with a material defect of the winding. From the point of view of preventing accidents of insulation breakdown, it is important to assess the condition of the winding. We applied our system to a dielectric breakdown test to learn the relation between the characteristics of the microwaves and the insulation condition of the winding. The dielectric breakdown test is believed to be useful for estimating the minimum breakdown voltage which is a criterion of the insulation condition of the winding. Experimental results showed that this system was able to assess the insulation condition by measuring the number of pulses and the amplitude of the microwaves per voltage cycle. On-line partial discharge detection of turbine generator using gigahertz-band spatial phase difference method
Partial discharge (PD) within voids in solid insulating systems is a symptom and/or a direct cause of a deterioration of stator windings of a turbine generator. The bandwidth of the electromagnetic waves emitted from PD is very broad and ranges to the gigahertz. We developed a new system based on the spatial phase difference method for detecting microwaves (GHz) emitted from PD. In this paper we applied this system to two off-line turbine generators in the overhaul and an on-line turbine generator which has two built-in antennas. On-line PD detection of the turbine generator is very useful for recognizing abnormal and/or deteriorated stator winding insulation without a machine outage. It was found that the detection system was able to detect microwaves emitted from PD in an operating turbine generator. (C) 2000 Scripta Technica.

Detection of wide-band E-M signals emitted from partial discharge occurring in GIS using wavelet transform
Recently, diagnostic techniques have been investigated to detect a partial discharge (PD) associated with a dielectric material defect in a high-voltage electrical apparatus. Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) is an important equipment in a substation, it's highly desirable to measure a partial discharge (PD) occurring in GIS which is a symptom of an insulation breakdown. As it is important to develop a noncontact method far detecting the insulation fault, this paper proposes a new method to detect the wide-band electromagnetic (E-M) wave emitted from PD using the Wavelet transform. The Wavelet transform provides a direct quantitative measure of spectral content, "Dynamic spectrum," in the time-frequency domain This paper experimentally shows the "Dynamic spectrum" of the wide-band E-M wave emitted from PD in the time-frequency domain. This method is shown to be useful for detecting the symptom of the insulation breakdown occurring in GIS.

Use of spatial phase difference method to detect microwaves associated with stator coil partial discharge in a generator
This paper presents a new system for detecting electromagnetic waves emitted from partial discharges (PD) due to material defects in high-voltage electric machinery and apparatus. PD is a symptom and/or a direct cause of the deterioration of insulation systems used in high-voltage stator coils. This system can detect PD by using the spatial phase information of the microwaves emitted from PD, which are voltage pulses of very short duration. We describe the properties of this system which is composed of two double-ridge-guide-horn antennas, two preamplifiers, a gigahertz interference receiver (GHz-2ch-down-converter) of original design, two A/D (analog to digital) converters, and a personal computer. We experimentally show that this system can be used for detection of the microwaves emitted by PD occurring in the stator coil. The result of this work is the development of a new noncontact PD detection system for generators, which can be operated by station personnel. (C) 1997 Scripta Technica, Inc.

Noncontact detection of electromagnetic noise occurrence due to partial discharges by spatial phase difference method
A new method for detecting the occurrence of partial discharge (PD) in a high-voltage electric apparatus due to a dielectric material defect is presented. This method uses the phase difference of electromagnetic signals emitted through space. The time delay of the signals at two points is estimated. From this, the time delay of the PD and the originating position can be determined. When the electromagnetic wave due to an internal PD is to be measured and an electric power apparatus has a dielectric defect, the mean power of the background noise is normally higher than that of the signal of interest and the signal tends to get lost in the background noise. This paper shows experimentally that the proposed method can be applied to identify the electromagnetic waves emitted from the PD. This method is shown to be useful for detecting and predicting an insulation material defect.

A new on-line insulation diagnostic technique for the power apparatus by detecting electromagnetic signals emitted from PD is presented in this paper. This technique consists of two methods, one is ''Spatial Phase Difference Method'' and the other is Time-Frequency Analysis Method''. This technique is shown to be useful and progressive for detecting the symptom of the insulation fault.

Development of Remote Sensing System using Electromagnetic Waves for Insulation Diagnosis of Electric Power Apparatus and Facilities

Partial discharge (PD) is a symptom of the insulation degradation of the electric power apparatus andfacilities. In this study a new method was developed for finding the direction of arrival (DOA) of theelectromagnetic waves emitted from PD using Bayesian Network. The time delay between two antennascomputed from digital data generally has error because of the effect of sampling time. Therefore the angleof arrival estimated from the time delay also has the estimation error. The probabilistic method ofreasoning with uncertain information was investigated. This method provides the probabilities of eachangle based on Bayes' Theorem. The proposed method is able to estimate the angle of arrival of theelectromagnetic waves.

Diagnosis of Rotor Vibration using Wavelet Analysis when Lubricant in Bearings is Reduced
ウェーブレット解析を利用した軸受給油不足時の軸振動診断
We developed a diagnosis method for an abnormal rotor vibration with reducing lubricant in tilting pad journal bearings. We suggest a method of diagnosis based on a statistical approach using repetition in an incidental vibration signal. That repetition is calculated using normalized amplitude of vibration for each frequency to diagnose anomalies early. The time-frequency characteristics of vibration amplitude were calculated using continuous wavelet analysis. On this diagnosis method, we compared measured repetitions with pre-measured repetitions of abnormal vibrations using inner products. We applied the diagnosis method to the measured vibration. We found that incidental low-frequency vibration occurred by reducing the lubricant, and the low-frequency vibration became a steady high-frequency vibration as the lubricant decreased. The diagnosis method detected the occurrence and the transition of the rotor vibration when lubricant in the bearings was reduced.

Time-Frequency Analysis of E-M Signals associated with Partial Discharges using Wavelat Transform
部分放電現象の時間周波数解析
高度情報社会の進展に伴い,より良質な電力の安定供給がこれまで以上に望まれており,電力機器の機能維持,故障の未然防止に対する診断技術への要求が高まっている．なかでもガス絶縁開閉装置(GIS:Gas Insulated Switchgear)は,変電所設備において重要な要素設備となっており,その絶縁破壊の予兆現象である部分放電(PD:Patial Discharge)の計測・診断技術の開発は強く要請されている．一方,PDの現象解明も進められており,特に,絶縁破壊時にはPDの電荷量が増加すると報告されている．そこで本論文では,PDを常時監視するシステムを構築すると共に,PD現象をその時間変化により検討する．なお,著者らはPDを電磁波空間位相差法により検出し,その位置標定を可能としたことを報告した．上記のシステムでは,PDから放射される電磁波を複数のアンテナにより検出していたことから,本論文においても,アンテナより得られる受信波形を元にPD現象の解析を行う．PD現象の解析方法としては,PDによる放射電磁波の周波数時間変化(ダイナミックスペクトラム)をウェーブレット変換を用いることで検討することとする．本論文では77kV模擬故障GISを用いた屋外実験の結果をもとに,PDの周波数時間変化とその放電電荷量との関係を示し,本システムの絶縁劣化診断に対する有効性を示す．
